From 2015 to 2024, the SETARA Institute has regularly compiled and published the Tolerant Cities Index (TCI) study, which aims to promote various best practices in tolerance across Indonesian cities. Over time, the TCI has successfully spurred cities to actively build ecosystems of tolerance in their respective regions.

To provide a shared space for districts and cities to exchange experiences and knowledge on promoting tolerance, the SETARA Institute is organizing the Tolerant Cities Conference (KKT). The city of Singkawang will host the first KKT in 2025, which will coincide with the observance of International Day for Tolerance on November 16, 2025. The 2025 KKT carries the theme “Strengthening Initiatives and Collaboration, Building an Ecosystem of Tolerance.” With this theme, the SETARA Institute aims to encourage and promote collaboration and innovation in advancing tolerance. Through this collaboration and these initiatives, it is hoped that all local stakeholders will collectively contribute to building an ecosystem of tolerance.
